Stopped along Highway 219 to pick up some ‘finger concretions’ from the Pipe Creek Shale Member which intertongues with the Angola and Hanover Shales (West Falls Group) in Western New York. Shale dominated concretions with internal carbonate tubes (pictured). Contain a good amount of agglutinated foraminifera. Their structures are very reminiscent of concretions from Campanian methane cold-seeps in South Dakota and Colorado (tepee buttes), and Texas. Making up some thin sections and petrographic images in my last days at UB. Hoping to correlate the Piper Creek Member in Michigan.
