Retired professor and researcher, Bob Jacobi, made a generous donation to the UB Geology department this past July; 15 boxes of Miocene vertebrate fossils from the Lee Creek Mine, North Carolina. Among the hoard are numerous whale and dolphin vertebrae, ribs, illiatic crests, sponge, and bivalves.
Some of these specimens will make it into our reserves for GLY 315 while the remaining specimens will be gathered with additional excess fossils (echinoderms, brachiopoda, mollusks, etc.) for donation to local underserved middle and high schools. If you are or know a Buffalo teacher in need of supporting material, email me at kcmeehan@ buffalo.edu with the subject line “Paleo Specimen Donation”.
